Self care should be about doing less for yourself, not more.

So often I feel like the things we are told we need for self care are activities where you add more of something to your day; like massages, manicures, coffee dates, meditation, buying a cute new outfit etc. These messages are reinforced constantly on social media, telling us we NEED to do this or buy that to feel 'happiness', 'peace' or 'calm'.

I do genuinely believe that these activities can help you feel better but when I'm feeling overwhelmed, burnt out or time poor trying to find the time or money to do these things adds even more stress & guilt to my to do list.

This is why I stopped 'doing' and why I encourage you to stop as well.

Instead of doing, try taking a break from social media.

Give your brain a break from social comparison.

Give your schedule a break from doom scrolling.

Give your wallet a break from 'needing' a new thing.

Delete those apps off your phone; Facebook, Tiktok, Instagram.

You don't need to take a break from your phone completely, just social media.

Now if you're reading this and thinking but I 'NEED' social media to switch off, then you need this break more than you realise.

I promise you the way you feel after even just 2 days off socials will completely shift your perspective.

I run my business predominately through social media, and I took the last 5 days off socials and I feel refreshed, inspired and more relaxed. My need to 'want' or 'grind' has been reduced and I feel like I want to do things again, opposed to feeling like I should. If I can take this time away, so can you.

So let me know if you'll take my advice, and send me a message on socials @gymandtonicmovement before you delete the apps!!
