Can I be honest with you? 🙏
Somedays I feel like a huge fraud. 🫣
I sit here trying to inspire women to move their bodies, love exercise and prioritise themselves, when sometimes there are weeks where I don't get to the gym at all or can only manage a walk.
Sometimes I don't have time, sometimes I can't be bothered and sometimes I'm so burnt out that the thought of leaving the house to do something is too much.
But then I remind myself, and this is what I remind you too; this is a phase and rest is equally as important as exercise. Often when I'm feeling burnt out or can't be bothered it's because I haven't been taking care of myself and I've been pushing myself to do things I don't love or aren't really helping me. 💔
The guilt & stress we create for ourselves about not working out, is only making us not what to do it more.
Over the last past few years, when I was really struggling with stress and other things I started to create a tool box of things I can do to help me manage how I feel and these revolve around prioritising rest & self care. 🧰
I know for a fact that when I think 'oh they can't matter that much', within a day or two I start feeling like crap all over again. 💩
A few of the simple things I focus on are;
💤 when it's time to sleep I'm not scrolling on my phone
🍎 I eat nutritionally dense food, focusing on fibre and protein and more food in the morning
☕️ removing caffeine (I know, I know but it make a huge difference),
📚 journaling before I go to bed to avoid ruminating on thoughts.
Focusing on rest means I am in a better mood, feel better & after a few days of rest I feel far more motivated and energised to get moving again.
And I also like to celebrate the fact that I am still finding the time once a week to get to the gym, walk or do an at home ab workout, amongst all the mayhem that is children, and that is something to be proud of.
