Breath work!
Ā
Unless you've been living under a rock, and you may very well have been with an anxiety disorder š, but also if you have an anxiety disorder you're more likely to have heard or been recommended breath work.
Ā
Breath work works because as you take your deep belly & rib breaths your body gets flooded with oxygen, triggering your parasympathetic to calm down. The cascades into a reduction in cortisol (our stress hormone), calms the heart rate and blood pressure, improves focus, aids sleep and overall just improves life.
Ā
I love taking deep breaths at random times through the day so I can experience the bliss of calm. Lots of time I will include box breathing too, ot get even more out of the breathwork.
Ā
Box breathing is when you breath in for a count of 4, hold your breath for a count of 4, breath out for a count of 8 and hold for a count of 4. The repeat that process ideally 10 times, but sometime just 3-4 can be beneficial.
Ā
So take this as your reminder to take some deep breaths and see how good you feel!
