Permission to stop.

In the mornings my girls have a list of 'chores' they have to complete. To be honest it's literally just the things they need to do like brush their teeth, get dressed etc, so not a lot. Every morning they get distracted, want to play and I end up yelling- I know I am not alone.
I often say to them, 'do the things you need to do first, then you can play'. I'll explain to them that once everything they need to do is done, then they don't have to worry about getting ready and they can have free time to play without me yelling.
This phrase 'do the things you need to do first, then you can play' is definitely something my mum said to me, and I feel confident in assuming there was a similar phrase used in your house.
Now this phrase is perfect for children; simple, clear and easy to understand.
But at what point does this phrase become a foundational belief?
Because as we get older the list of things we 'need to do' literally never stops- there is ALWAYS something that needs to be done.
Which also means when are we finished to play/ rest/ decompress?
Perhaps never? And maybe this is why we are a generation of burnt out women never feeling like we have permission to rest?
Do I have a better phrase to use with my girls? Right now, no.
Will I start to regularly schedule in rest time for me, even when my to do list is screaming, probably also no haha.
Just kidding.
For me my favourite me time at the moment is gym time. I've really been able to set up a routine since Kora stopped napping and I feel like a whole new woman. I will probably start talking to my girls more about how going to the gym is my time to relax and hopefully that will set their foundational beliefs too.
I know for so many women in our community the 60mins a couple of times a week that they have for themselves is their favourite time too.
If exercising isn't your 'me' time, this is your permission from the universe to take one hour of whatever you love to do in the next 24 hours.
